In the Duncan room in the Twisted Forest there is a building with a shelf that sits next to a wall bookshelf. The shelf has a skull on it and when you remove it the large wall bookshelf opens up reveling a small room.
I presume there is something behind the bookshelf which is now against a wall in the small room.
I guess I have to remove the skull, open the bookshelf, step into the room and then close the bookshelf again, while inside the room, to reveal what's behind it.
I re-inserted the skull in the shelf outside the room causing the bookshelf to swing closed again and I noticed one of the books pop out. I was able to click on it and cause the bookshelf to swing open again with the skull still on the shelf but that is as far as I got.
I really don't see how clicking on the book that pops out helps at all when it doesn't work from inside the room.
Anybody know how to solve this?

Honestly - I'm a bit confused, what you are trying to achieve.
You found out how to open the secret room behind the bookshelf - and as far as I get it you are able to enter that room.
What else?

That makes two of us. I am confused also!
You said I have found out how to open the secret bookshelf door. That is easily done by removing the skull from the shelf just left of the door. Why then the secret 'book' button on the bookshelf itself?
If all that is necessary is to open the door and gain access to the room, why would anyone want to replace the skill and close the door then re-open it again using the secret 'book' button?
Seems to me the secret 'book' button is a total waste.

Ah - I understand.
The secret bookshelf was invented by Skuggasveinn for his room. Duncan just re-used it and added a different mechanic to open the door. I'm afraid you have to ask him, why he did this.
EDIT: I wonder why you can use the hidden book mechanic. I remembered to disable the clickable component so this shouldn't be possible. And when checked I found at least in the editor the shelf in exact that state. - Mmh, I must re-check in the exported version...
