I also feel that random dungeons would be insta-boring. Only lovingly created custom dungeons will ever be any good, to me.

I would possibly play the odd random dungeon, but after a while it would get like Skyrim, playing basically the same dungeon over and over. It's originality and variety I crave. :)

I'm not sure wholly random levels would be interesting for long. Maybe there would be a way for the parts of a level that have story or puzzles to remain static, but for the rest of the level to be randomized, or insert entire randomized levels in between human designed ones. There are always possibilities.

Why would you insist on a sequel over an expansion? What would a sequel bring you that an expansion could not?

I'd much rather see an expansion. The major reasoning here is that all the assets from the expansion would instantly be available in the editor, but also, if they add any improvements to the expansion, there's a good chance these improvements apply retroactively to the original game, and this cannot be said for a sequel.

Well if you look at how Dungeons of Dredmor does randomized dungeons, it's done very well.
The dungeons never get boring, there are puzzles and things that work well, and you never know what you're going to find.
A lot of the dungeon is completely random, but sections of it are semi-random, to allow puzzles to remain functional. Like certain rooms and things.

I would much prefer randomized dungeons, but if it isn't done right it would probably be boring. If it was done like DoD it would be epic.
When the map editor is released I'm not even going to touch it, I would much prefer to hit a button and just play.

ever play dungeon hack? that was random but fun.

On one hand it's a lot easier to make one code that will be able to make random dungeons then 4 billion dungeons people will go in with no way to look up whats where.

On another hand the design of the dungeons here has a lot of very deliberate things in it and well constructed puzzles using only a few available tools. Once you finish these dungeons though it's over and good hand maid dungeons take a long time to make.

I'd like to see after a dungeon editor gives us all the data we need a community made random dungeon generator.

nah, random is just impossible to be good to me. I've played random dungeon games (Diablo 1, 2, Nethack, Rogue, others) and had some fun in years past, but my limited time and demands for quality are too high now to waste time on that sort of thing. There are tons of talented Grimrock fans who will make tons of quality custom dungeons and thoughtful unique puzzles, so we'll have no shortage of good stuff without needing any random generator.

How about randomized levels AND a dungeon editor to satisfy both parties? The dungeon editor seems like it wouldn't be that big of a project, simply create a decent UI.

That would be enough content for an expansion in my opinion.

The scripting is powerful enough that - unless some unforeseen thing limits it - it should be possible to make a random dungeon generator with it. Maybe.

Almost Human have put a lot of time into the Dungeon Editor, and will be giving it to us for free!
