Any plans for an expansion yet?

Post by ClawlessVictory »

Just checking back in. Still haven't purchased this game, holding out for the randomized dungeon mode / permadeath. Fingers crossed...

The Dungeon Editor is almost done. After that there will be a bunch of maps much more interesting than a randomized dungeon could ever be.

I don't believe that, but since it would be impossible to make a randomized dungeon in this game, with items, traps, puzzles, secrets and so on being random, A dungeon editor is the next best thing to make the game more interesting and new.

Depends how you define interesting, I do not think random equals interesting myself, give me a dungeon loving made by someone any day thanks. For me a Dungeon Editor is WAY better.

That being said AH has at least considered making a random dungeon creator.

I do not want an expansion! I want a sequel. Please do a Grimrock 2!
Ideally importing teams from Grimrock 1 would be cool, though I don't think it could be easily done, since many players have already reached level cap, so the game would loose mauch of its interest!

If had to choose one or the other, then yes a Dungeon Editor would be better. But I find Random Dungeons better because there are only so many people interested in this game, and they can lose interest at any time. So there will only be so many maps made and played. When you beat a map once tho... You know how to beat it, every single time. It becomes... simple, boring, predictable. With a random dungeon every single time tho, you can never get bored, you can never know what is going to happen, every time you go in will be a brand new experience. The game itself might get boring, but the dungeons never would.

It's true, random dungeons would never become boring. Because they are already boring when you play them for the first time. It would just be a random assortment of tunnels and rooms with monsters in it. What point is there playing something like that? Even a single large, detailed dungeon with fun ideas, great layout and puzzles would be better than a random generator. Without interesting puzzles, a good dungeon layout (possibly with a nice side story, like Toorum for example), well placed equipment and balanced difficulty you would strip the game of all its fun.
