Re: Old school gaming Vs New games : Thoughts
Lack of innovation and chalenge is obvious in todays games, and specifically in FPSs. Now, regarding the Fun factor, this depends on the gamer. Casual gamer would probably find fun in them. But real gamers probably not. Personally, I have stopped playing FPS many years ago. The last one I played wa...

Re: Old school gaming Vs New games : Thoughts
^^ I'm just saying a lot of modern FPS games do not have the FUN factor of older games. That's all. For you. The fun in modern FPS comes from the competitive online play. Theres a few single player FPS that are def worth playing though like Bioshock 1/2. The reason why Dungeon Crawlers came about w...

Re: Overall gameplay speed (elderly gamer)
Well... In level 4 I nearly bit into my keyboard a few times, because the "moving bridge" part was quiet tough... But after retrying it again and again, I finally managed to beat it. Damn... it seem I'm getting old. Many years ago ( I am 50 years of age too ) I loved to play "Dungeon...

Re: Please FIX the XP system!
Somebody please correct me if I'm worng, but wasn't this system old-school as well? I seem to remember Ultima: Exodus having this kind of system.
In any case, I like it this way. It forces me to use my entire party, instead of just relying on the tanks.

Re: Level Editor Tutorials
Any of you ever play around with level editors before. I used to love making outdoor environments with the Neverwinter Nights 2 toolset. I've done WOlf3D, Spear of Destiny, Quake, etc. Did a ton of Duke 3D levels...I'm actually thinking of doing up the first map of Grimrock in Duke just for kicks; ...

Re: Level Editor Tutorials
I can't wait to start building levels, so I'll definitely be involved in some capacity. I've spent the last few days conducting intense research (meaning, I've been playing every old-school game in my collection, plus bought and started the Ishar series
) to get myself in the right frame of mind!

Re: Dungeon mapping tools to sketch ideas in
+1 on the paper. However, I do have two great web-based tools I used during my campaigns: http://pyromancers.com/dungeon-painter-online/ which is a pretty robust system for when I want to create maps with tiles and color (instead of just a pencil), and http://www.gozzys.com/article.php?cm_id=8 , whi...

Re: Use the Grimrock engine for a revival of the old classic
I'm pretty sure AH would be delighted to license their engine for a couple million bucks =) Aren't they releasing the Map Editor and modding tools free? Or was that a dream I had? Anywho, the map editor would be pretty much all you need to remake Eye of the Beholder. i did heard there was a map edi...
