I can't cast magic!

Hi - I've got an alchemist who has 1 point of concentration and no points in the four schools of magic yet. I've tried putting an orb or a lightning wand (looks like a blue tree branch, has 8 or so charges) in one hand, but the other hand doesn't glow blue. In other words I can't even cast support spells. Do I need to have at least one point in a magic school, as well as concentration, before I can cast magic with a non-wizard?

Cheers

The hand won't turn blue. You have to right-click the casting implement and go through that.

Hi there chaps - thanks for the replies.

sadly, that doesn't work.

I right click on the Lightning Rod and it just does a swipe sound and says 'can't reach', like I'm attacking with a melee weapon. If I hold down right mouse button it uses up a magic charge on the Lightning Rod and fires off a blast of lightning. No magic icons become available.

I do have an orb, but that requires two points in Concentration - which I don't have - it's red in my hand and won't let me use it.

You need a wand, actually. I believe the Orb that holds Light charges is actually a wand for these purposes, but not the Storm Orb for some reason.

Any wand will do, there is one you get very early on in the game that grants Willpower+1 or something small, and I believe it does not have prerequisites.

Thanks for that! Yup, it seems that the lightning rod, that looks like a wand, and acts like a wand, is not in fact a wand, for the purposes of casting. Also, orbs and wands that would work are no use if you don't have sufficient Concentration to wield them, even if you're not actually using their main ability.

Cheers chaps
