Grimrock

He keeps teleporting away after I inflict enough damage. Is it possible to actually kill this guy and get the experience here, or is he some sort of recurring opponent that we cannot definitively deal with until later? I'm not interested in spoilers -- I just want to know if I am wasting my time when I keep restoring the game in my attempts to kill him. If I can't really do anything about him right now, I'll just move on. But if I can get some extra experience for the effort, I'd like to.

Yes he is a reoccurring enemy.

Yo do need to do enough damage to him to make him leave, but don't worry about killing him at the moment. He's a right pain in the rear!
