Weapon Slots

Weapon slot '1' and '2' reference Primary Hand and Secondary Hand, respectively, but how do I differentiate when "switching" weapon used from I. to II.? The slots are still referenced by '1' and '2'.
Edit, clarification: How do I know the player 'Swapped Weapons' if the slots are still referenced as 1 and 2?
