I think I dropped the somewhere and it seems that I need it to get into the pyramid. Is my only solution to hopefully go back and find it wherever I left it, or is there another way in?

you definitely need this, because you are going to use serpent staff inside the pyramid as well

I have the however the door won't open. I've tried putting it in the alcove and hitting the statues with it. Is my game bugged or am I doing something wrong? My only clue is pretty vague.

i was stuck for a while here too not knowing where to go and the Ruins seeming to be a dead end
