turning around in forest

this game is awesome!

stuck in the forest, to the east, you get turned around, no way to advance.
how do you pass into the next area?

also, the temple with the four gems leave me baffled, but that's perhaps later...

where are the "two lanterns in eastern twigroot"?

In eastern twigroot before you get to the River, there should be two of those basin things with a little flame in them. Not exactly laterns.

For the record, it is no turnabout, just the screen flickering when you change zones
