Stuck in dungeon `follow the light' hint

Hej,
Im in a dungeon where I fought the first ice elemental enemy (first for me anyway), after I solved the skywalk puzzel the robed message deliverer closes a door. There is a spider in a cage on a 2 level dungeon part with stairs, where I found the hint `follow the light'. I assume the puzzle relies on the pressure plates and the means to teleport the spider, but I have no idea how to solve this one.
Does anyone have a suggestion?

Here is a hint.
When you trap the spider, go in front of the switch in the bottom part that Teleports the spider back up. Insted of stepping on it tho... How about you turn around?

Lovely. I already followed the hint, but only looked at the lantarns, not at how the lights were cast.

I feel dumb. I can follow the hints given but...
even looking at the lights, i cannot tell what I am supposed to be seeing and how it relates to my surroundings

Look which pressure plates are lit up when spider is on button, drop item/stone on them from top level,
Extra secret: also dropping stone on all and then pessing teleport plate/or dropping spider on middle button of them opens secret passage I think, then you can walk in to the area with plates and take helmet, atleast I think that's how I opened it..

oh wow! I knew the spider was related somehow, but i did not notice the difference in the light patterns because i was looking on the top level and not the bottom. Thanks! As far as I can tell, the button on the wall in the bottom area does nothing at all

The top area is all gated and I can't get through to drop anything on the pressure plates though. What am I missing?
EDIT: Good grief. You have to literally drop it; you can't throw it. Got the treasure but is that it? How do I then open that door upstairs?
