Edit: This is all nonsense, as the contest is long over. I saw a later contest, and am easily confused!
Hi guys, just wanted to throw a shout out for Petri. He burned the midnight oil for 48 hrs and wrote up an old school, SSI gold box style rpg game for a development contest called LudumDare. He worked hard on it, and did a GREAT job, you know, if old school rpg's are your thing. . .Ewps, forgot where I was, OF COURSE old school rpg's are your thing! So, if you can find the time, please go download, play, and rate it. It is called "The Monestary", and it features a couple of characters named Contar and Sanscaron
Petri is far too humble to post it to you guys, but I'm not! GO! PLAY! VOTE! Thanx!

So this is a newer/better version, cool!
(Chrome said the file was malicious, and canceled the download! I had to manually yet at it to "hurt me plenty" and allow the download)
What has been updated/improved?
I agree that UI could use a lot of friendliness improvements. An issue for me is trying to play on my laptop I seem to have no way to move diagonally
EDIT - This is not new, it's from April!

i was completely unaware of it, found it today and it said 11 days left,i had assumed it was from this month or so, but didn't check any dates (obviously). i suppose it is possible that i ended up on an old page also, the contest is still open for a few more days, yes? kinda want to check out some other entries, too. thank you for clarifying the circumstance.

Ludum Dare is held three times a year so the timer you're seeing is for the newer one.

Thank you msyblade for the support! Yeah, as pointed out The Monastery was made for an older Ludum Dare in May, so you can't vote for my game anymore.
After the compo I did a bug fix update and ported the game to javascript be playable directly on the web. Also the number of random encounters has been toned down so it should be more enjoyable.

I'm getting the GIT branch right now for it (and source, as I'm also a software engineer) and I can't wait to explore it. I've played every single gold box game that existed (and I have them all) - I once built a Windows app that uses DosBOX to launch all of them multi-threaded with the appropriate journal, rule book, and clue books in PDF.
This looks awesome! Props to your guy! Really great work

Awesome game love it, it takes be back to the old days. Although old days for me are the Acorn and Amstrad text adventures, you would load up the tape program, make a coffee and have a shower and the game would be ready lol. I still have my Commodore Vic 28, Atari 520 st, stfm and ste, Amiga 500 as well lol and a lot more game consoles lol.

My Amiga 2000 was on a shelf in the garage, and a mouse peed on the motherboard.
