Why is it when you step backwards, do you fall forwards down the hole?

You should try turning around just after using a staircase .. Sidestepping like a baws.

Falling down holes is actually an achievement in the Steam version, lol. You get the 'Pitfall' achievement if you fall down holes 25 times.
