M&M X. 2 things I like.
The two things I like about the new Might and magic X, are
True turn based combat and I like how you are locked in combat if a enemy is on a adjacent tile.
Of course I also like the open environment, but Log2 will have this too.

Well then you'll like Bard's Tale and the old Wizardry's too. Turn based combat is what dungeon crawlers were like before Dungeon Master replaced it by real time combat.
Re: M&M X. 2 things I like.
I would love to go back to those old classics, GoG is full of the little gems. But the graphics and screen resolution, means that you usually end up playing in a tiny window with blocky graphics in four colours.Dr.Disaster wrote:Well then you'll like Bard's Tale and the old Wizardry's too. I too love the turn based combat. But then again - you cannot run from an enemy that is far more powerful. In MMX it often means death and reload.
And since the Engine is so...well...like..you know how Unity is...it is a pain to reload.
In the Beginning it was just a matter of pressing 1111 for the attacks. but now(my party is level 16 now) it becomes more and more strategic. You have to think about what buff and what attack makes the most sense for a certain enemy. It is all fun. The Quests and the Overworld are exciting too.
But this game is crippled with this engine and some bad designs. Look at Seahaven for example. And then in sharp contrast there is the Crag and the lost city which are just wonderful and beautiful designed(as are most dungeons).
Well, besides some bugs and minor other things this game(just like LoG) is what i was looking for. The more Games like this and Grimrock coming out the better.
I feel like playing a boardgame which is a good thing. And when you think - just this one Dungeon, or this one Levelup, or just explore that area over there - you know they made something right
I just hope that Almost Human won't rush the release of LoG 2 and polish it as much as possible. Because MMX is certainly not polished and feels rushed in certain spots.

I liked LOG well enough, but always thought there was something missing. I don't know if was not being able to kill monsters with doors, or that things moved to fast to be as atmospheric as DM. I also thought that the actual dungeon layout, traps, monsters etc; could have been better. I could never keep interested enough to finish it, and don't get me started on the twitch puzzles and the clunky spell casting.
I just hope LOGII catches more of the old school magic.

M&M X could be such an amazing game. It actually is if you just read through the design. It's a big buggy and badly optimized and some skills are just too useless, but other than that, I love it! I hope they improve it further and released add-ons for it.
I also like Legend of Grimrock a lot, though and am really looking forward for LoG2.
Regarding turn-based combat... I dunno. I love the battle system in M&M X. For LoG at first I really hated the battle system, but once I understood "How to do it right", I actually enjoyed it a lot. I wouldn't really put anything above the other, I like both! LoG just needs more time getting used to and is a big turnoff for those who aren't willing to understand it. I will get LoG2 whether it has the LoG battle system or the one from M&M X. Though if it actually used a turn-based battle system I think it would need more options / skills.
That being said, my father couldn't really play LoG, because he's old and can't handle anything that requires reflexes, plus the puzzles are way too complicated for him. He really loves M&M X, though. I'm really happy they made that game. It's fun playing the same game as your father and then discuss about different builds and stuff with him. =D

When I was playing LOG for the first time, I got my Son playing it. That too was a good thing, as he was there to do all of the twitch based puzzles for me. I didn't stand a chance, hand to eye doesn't work for me as well as it use to. I wasn't alone, many older players were finding themselves in the same boat. I don't know how all those without younger family members got on.

Actually it's not often like that. Most of those games could handle EGA; some MCGA, and a few supported VGA. The few that are CGA only... well that's what they drew.Dandy wrote:I would love to go back to those old classics, GoG is full of the little gems. I have PC games from the late 80's that support 16 color EGA graphics, and they look just fine.
Almost all of these games require an emulator, not just for the OS, but also to slow the system clock down to a speed that the games remain playable at. DosBox is superb for this, and emulators can filter low-res graphics to be a little smoother; though if it's VGA, that should be smooth enough already. Depending on the scaler method picked, DosBox can make any game fullscreen.

I'm with you on that, but you have to remember that there are people who refuse to play half life 2 today because "it looks dated".Isaac wrote:I have PC games from the late 80's that support 16 color EGA graphics, and they look just fine.

Oh I know it...but IMO that falls into the same category as "won't watch a Black & White movie; it's not in color", and it's simply their loss ~sometimes even for the same reasons.Sol_HSA wrote:I'm with you on that, but you have to remember that there are people who refuse to play half life 2 today because "it looks dated".Isaac wrote:I have PC games from the late 80's that support 16 color EGA graphics, and they look just fine.
