I am just curious, perhaps I just missed this information, but --

Is LoG2 going to be some kind of "open-world", so you can travel trough different locations, accepts quests, visits merchants etc... or "just" straigtforward adventure like Log1 ?

We toyed with the open-world idea but in the end it didn't feel Grimrock to us. So, we intend to keep LoG2 focused on exploration, adventure and puzzles, things that worked great in the first game. That said, LoG2 won't be another big dungeon romp. The environments have more variety and almost every element of the original game will be expanded.

Maybe this blogpost sheds more light on the subject:

I second that. I love travel and overworlds, but grimrock doesn't really need them. At heart it's all about crawling through a dungeon.

Well i have to disagree , all my best cRPG where with outside area's/world :

Ishar 1,2 , M&M World of Xeen , lands of lore 1.

Ishar is still my faovorite old cRPG with open outside area's , but world of xeen has so much bigger world with lots and lots of diffrent dungeons :) , making game with only dungeons is limitting it. If outside area's are made proper they can add so much athmosphere to the game , remember those swamps in ishar 2 with toad pepole or forest with invisible lizard man boss from ishar 1 :) great stuff.

One more thing those old cRPG with open area's had good "travel system" beacuse party moves so fast. Grimrock 1 walking animation is nice in dungeons , but in larger open area's i think its too slow . There should be some option like "fast walking" to skip this walking animation and make it faster. Try to imagne if you are playing word of xeen and going from one distant location to antoher and everytime you make step forward you get this walking animation , defintly too slow.

Yeah, world of xeen was excellent. It's first person overmap would be hard to implement with modern graphics. Making a shrunk down overworld convincing, and not silly looking would be quite a challenge.

Edit: something went wrong with the quoting.
