I know, I'm probably an idiot for not being able to figure out how to use them, but can anyone tell me how to use torches? I've tried giving them to my characters, right clicking them, dragging them, but I don't get any light for some reason.

You must put the torch to someones hand and it lights up. If you use the torch for a while it gives you no more light and you must light another torch.

I've equipped the torch, and it says "(Bright)", but there's no light given off and I'm not sure why.

Reset the settings in your graphics card control panel to their default values. Turn off AA, Crossfire/SLI etc if you're using it.

maybe this relates but unsure. when I started the game everything was black except the torches on wall, but they didn't work in my hand (pitch black nothingness). My catalyst settings for graphics card were set specially for Skyrim. I had to switch everything to application controlled. Also morphilogical filtering has had issues with other games so i turned that off.

Yep, resetting driver options to defaults should fix this. It's a known problem with some ATI drivers.
