A skeleton and its shield.(Same question, whole new problem)

Okay resetting the top of this thread is kinda weird but I really am asking basically the same question. So here I go.
Seeing all the progress people had made with models but most of all having seen Skuggasveinn's Modeling for Grimrock tutorial I figured I might as well just try it. Suffice to say everything went wrong. I selected and deleted the shield just fine however when I look at the textures every thing is scrambled and insane. The UV maps are all in the right positions (as is the texture picture itself) however the the texture on the actual model is scrambled. I have tried rotating the UV maps 90, 180, and 360 degrees, it just changes the insane. This was the more minor problem.
I decided I didn't care TOO much about the texture when it was all gonna end up pitch black so I just imported it to the GMT to check it uot whlie I figured out how I was going to lower that arm on the animations. And, of course, animations would not load.
If deleting the models shield means animations will not work how do I do this? Is my entire quest insane?

Here is the original post for reference.
I am planning on making a new monster called baneguard using the skeleton warrior as the base. While my retexturing work seems to have gone well, as I mentioned once before I have never done any digital modeling (then again before about a week ago I never edited anything).I want to
1) Turn the skeleton black, maybe other texturing. I can do that.
2) Make the skeleton semi-transparent. Can probably handle it, at least with a little reading.
3) Remove the skeletons shield.

Yeah
Thats the biggy. Before wasting a lot of time I just wanted to ask if this project is feasible, at least without spending months. Or the alterations to the model would require much more experience. And, my biggest worry, that it would damage the animations too much. So what do you think

well you got step 1 covered.

regarding step 2, read up on this
viewtopic.php?f=14&t=3777&p=38627&hilit=ghost#p38627
Here Neikun got a "ghost" skeleton going and its available on Nexus.

regarding removing the Shield, thats something I tried and we have a proplem but the solution is coming from the GMT
Right now the problem is that when we export a model out off GMT to obj we lose the rigged bones, and therefore the model will never move again.
But the development on the GMT has been outstanding so far, and I beleive we will be making animations soon :)

If the skeleton has the shield on it's model, try making it completely transparent. (meaning, just delete the whole shield part of the texture, so it only shows the transparent color, usually a checkerboard-type thing)

Also make sure the material has alphatest set to true -- otherwise the shield might just turn out black. The skeleton will still be animated as if it held a shield, so pay heed to that. I think it should still look alright.

The very first thing I did with the grimrock editor was make an unarmed skeleton using the approach you have just suggested. I have to say the animations made it look pretty awful, like it was a boxing skeleton!

Yup, it works, and should be relatively easy. Looks only slightly silly. Notes:

0 -- Prepare a dungeon for the skeleton (I assume you already have a dungeon so I made this step zero)

1 -- Copy the skeleton weapons textures from the asset pack into your dungeon's assets. Do the same to the skeleton model (because you will be changing the weapon material with the model toolkit -- since you have done some texturing before (I presume?) I presume you know how to do that part. Also copy the skeleton weapons material to your mod's materials script. Also copy the skeleton script from the monsters script in the assets to your mod's monster script -- you need to change it's model, and you'll probably want to use a shielded skeleton in your mod as well.

2 -- Edit the textures: make the shield completely transparent. The shield and the spear are in the same texture, make sure you don't make the spear tip and shaft transparent as well! The shaft is the wooden "plank" in the left side of the texture, the tip is in the solid square of metal next to it touching the upper edge of the file. (the spot is easier to see in specular or normal map texture -- it has the tip shape on it)

3 -- Change the skeleton weapons material to point to the textures you just edited. Also change the alphatest to read "true". Also name the material something something easy, like adding _noshield to the name so the model can distingquish it from the reqular material. I didn't make any further changes to the material.

4 -- Open the skeleton model you copied into your mod assets with the toolkit and change the material to read your new material. Remember to save it -- I forget this often. Also change your monster script for the shieldless skeleton to point to this model you just edited.

5 -- Place it into the dungeon.

6 -- Hope I didn't forget anything.

7 -- Presto, as they say.

It should not be too hard, actually, writing this took longer than making the edit. : P

Nonetheless, if you can't make it work, do not hesitate to ask help. I may not be very good at writing tutorials and guides.

*pap pap*
The only problem I have with a boxing skeleton by that method is that it only ever throws a right jab.

I just got the best idea: Butler Skeleton! Just needs a towel modeled on the shield hand!

Switch out the spear for a rat shank, and he'll constantly be trying to feed you. Trying to feed you so much - it hurts.

Sorry, this is nice (aaannd... Weird). But that still looks a little silly. I want something creepy. I don't think retexturing will be enough for what I need. Even if I could change the model I would need to move the arm, I had already figured that. Unfortunately, as I mentioned I worried that doing so would mean I would somehow have to change the animations. Something I don't think I could manage. It looks like I have overreached my abilities and have to try something else.

It may be, but don't lose hope! I took the damn healing crystal as one of my first projects, and I think we still don't understand how it works. ; D
