Predetermined loot.

Post by Edrondol »

I'm asking this for someone over at /r/grimrock.

Is loot predetermined or is there randomness in drops? Because the mazes are set, is there replayability or will big bad monster A always give the same stuff when defeated?

Everything's predetermined.

You want to find that extra-special piece of equipment? Better brush up on your puzzle skills .

The playability will come mainly from attempting different party builds/ harder difficulties/ playing custom dungeons...

However, the devs said they might release a Random Dungeon mode someday.

Hmmm. That limits replayability somewhat.

Still worth the price, though!

limits?

From the main game screen there is a choose dungeon selection.... so.. there is a huuuge likelyhood that the Dev's or the community will be making dungeons that you could select to play..... that makes it pretty limitless imo, and very exciting, imagine just how long some people have had dungeon designs in this style in their heads, moulded by the rpg's thru the last decade or two.... very exciting to see just what people have been dreaming of making for years. cant wait..... wake me on the 11th.

Yes, limits. For now there is only the main dungeon, which has been stated to be about 30 hours of gameplay. To replay it knowing that you'll get the same prizes for the same fights is limiting. You can't possibly say that it's not based on the generic.

If you're playability goals are limited to loot, then yes, I'd imagine it does.

If you want to challenge yourself to replay it in different ways (All minotaur party, or no mage party, different skill builds, etc.) then it's not limited by the loot at all. Re-playability doesn't mean you see something new every time you run through the game. I'm sure many of us play Eye of the Beholder again and again, and that hasn't changed in nigh-on twenty years, hasn't hurt its re-playability.

A ''randomize dungeon'' option would also be good for replayability , I don't know if it's possible to just code in like that though. Besides, there wouldn't be much sense to implement a dungeon editor.

Probably not in such a trap/puzzle heavy game. I think we'll have to wait for additional dungeons to be posted.

There's this little game, maybe you've heard of it? It's called "Doom". People still play it now, almost 2 decades, after it's release, thanks to it's moddability and map-making tools.

Yeah and there's this little thing called condescending sarcasm, perhaps you've heard of it.

Anyway, already got what I came here for FOR SOMEONE ELSE so I guess I'll be leaving you to your opinions.
