Is there a really good dungeon made by grimrock editor?

Post by tantalan »

Hi guys. The dungeon editor is a great tool. I was really looking forward new dungeons made in it. However when i tried some of them presented in workshop on steam (even the top rated) i was really disappointed. I missed real atmosphere, I missed interesting puzzles, I missed a nice game to play. I mean in one dungeon after few steps with one dagger in my hand i found a troll and i had to fight him. In another dungeon in the beginning i found all pieces of armor all super weapons etc. Or somewhere else there were endless tunnels without a reason. In another there were thousands of locks without a key. But why? All the dungeons are so much unbalanced. I didnt like anything. I mean yeah its really cool that everybody can make tehir own dungeons great. But is there a really good one? Than after several trials of custom dungeons i tried to play again legend of grimrock from the beginning. And i found that i was right. Here is everything what really good dungeon should have. Balanced secrets, monsters, stuff, original puzzles. Everything in right place. Its not boring at all, its original. So my question is. Does anyone know if there is such a good dungeon made in editor as legend of grimrock is? If so can you post a link here? :-) Thanks.

um....the editor isn't even out of beta yet?

Even to make a simple dungeon with 2-3 levels, it's hours of work.

I expect, as time passes, dungeons will become more sophisticated.

I'm looking for some beta testers for my dungeon, Samoth's Castle.

Some screenshots from half a week ago are here: viewtopic.php?f=14&t=3022&start=60#p32859 .

Around 95% of the first level is done, 85% of the second level, and the third level is around ~3% done. I would estimate around 35mins of play time right now depending on the paths. The game difficulty should be pretty hard, especially the further down you go, where the monsters get tougher, the puzzles more challenging, the traps more unforgiving, and the secrets and their loot even grander.

I'm looking for a few good beta testers to give me an idea of how people use the map, what passages they take, what secrets they find, etc. Ideally, if someone could record their playthrough on video so I can see how they use/interact with the dungeon that would be great.

So let me know if you're interested and I'll send you the game file. I would really appreciate any help. Thanks.

right now there are a ton of "test" dungeons that are, as you say, not very good quality. But people are starting to make better ones, and good quality dungeons will be coming out in the next few weeks I'm sure.

Someone's a little impatient. I've put about 40 hours into my dungeon so far and I wouldn't even say it's half done.
You can play the WIP version here: http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/f ... d=96554038
And let me know what you do and don't like about it.

Jesus!
Looking forward to your dungeon, Garth. Just for the sheer magnitude of it.

Oh come on! The editor is still in beta, it has been released 2 weeks ago. People are making their first tries with it. You can't expect legend of grimrock quality for our dungeons! (not yet ;) ) it's the beginning. For now we try the editor, we test it. Maybe some imPatient modders should have wait a little before release their creations, but as they all say " it's wip and alpha or beta".

So wait a little, until christmas, I'm pretty sure superb dungeons will be avalaible! :)
