New to this genre - game suggestions before release date
Hi everyone,
Being a student on a budget, I can't meet the capital investments to play mainstream games anymore.
Hence, I became intrigue with Grimrock and made my pre-order a few days ago.
Since the game won't be released until the 11th, I was wondering if anyone on the forum could suggest other classic games that is similar or inspired Grimrock to give me a feel of the game style?
Thanks

You have to play the original "Dungeon Master" which was the game that inspired "Legend of Grimrock".
Go to-
http://ragingmole.com/RTC/
This is a free windows version of the 1987 classic and it follow-up title.
Whether you finish it or not, you will better understand and appreciate LoG.
Cheers!

The closest I have played is the Eye of the Beholder series. I have heard Dungeon Master mentioned here a lot, I have never played it myself.
Gotta dungeon crawl before you can dungeon walk...

Would definitely recommend Eye of the Beholder. You can probably find it on various abandoneware sites and I'm guessing you can get it to run in DOSBox.

Going to have a hard time resisting buying that Might and Magic 6-pack myself. So many good games!

Just beware that Dungeon Master is rather unforgiving. Eye of the Beholder (mentioned above) is considerably easier to get into, at least if you are familiar with the AD&D ruleset (which was very common in CRPGs during the late 80's and through the 90's). Lands of Lore is also somewhat similar, and does not have a complex ruleset that you have to wrestle with, and it can be legally obtained from GOG.
