In the past, there were many posts, from the members of the forum, about the sales numbers of Grimrock. The developers, if I remember correct had hinted that they would give some clues on the number of sales in the future. I would like to redraw this question, towards the Almost Human's members. Can you give us a hint on the number of sales that the game generated? I don't ask for an exact number but a rough estimation, would be more than welcome, and will help us the gamers to assess the popularity of the game. Believe me that it is important for us to know how popular the game is, since we really loved it and we are looking forward to some sort of sequel. So knowing how the game sells will give us hope for the future. After all we would like to know, how many, we, the old school rpg lovers, are.
Thak you in advance.

I'd love to know too, but apart from getting hired by almost human, it's pretty impossible (and after that I couldn't tell you anyway =).
The contracts with distribution chains (steam, gog) forbid giving out this information. This may sound silly, but there's actual reasons for that - game sales figures affect large game companies' stock value, and if everybody but one company show their sales figures, it's possible to extrapolate the values (through sales charts and all that).
All that said..

CD Projekt mentioned, as quoted in above post, that grimrock sold 20k copies through gog.com in about two months. Let's guess that this is 50% of all sales (the other bit being steam and direct sales) and we arrive at 40000 copies in the first two months. Given the way game sales tend to go (*), this is probably the majority of the sales. So the total sales, based on these assumptions, is at least 50k copies. +/- 50% =)
(*) High spike at release with a steep drop afterwards, with little bumps due to sales, possibly a huge spike due to humble bundle =)

Bah! I don't think this is the reason. After all Almost Human is not in the stockmarket . Large companies do announce numbers in the form of landmarks reached. For example Blizzard says that Diablo sold over 10 million units! That is what I expect.Something very rough would be acceptable. For example something like over 50.000 units, or over 100.000 units, or below 100.000 units.

Petri commented on this in Greco's previous thread for anyone curious.
So we may get a rough figure at some point.

Re: Important Question to Almost Human Ltd
I work for an (recently divorced from publisher) indie dev and while I know exactly how much we've made from microtransactions and exactly how many people are playing the game - that's mainly because it's my code that captures those figures! It's very uncommon for a regular employee to know sales figures. I'm sure all the guys at AH all do because they're truly a tiny company. But if they decided to expand and I joined them, I wouldn't expect to ever know specifically how a game was selling. There are just too many reasons why it's not a good idea for people to know, who don't need to knowSol_HSA wrote:I'd love to know too, but apart from getting hired by almost human, it's pretty impossible (and after that I couldn't tell you anyway =).

Sales have a lot to do with visibility. We did have a huge spike when we launched on Steam, however, we haven't had a huge dropoff because we've remained in the top 3 most popular F2P games since launch. People looking for a free game to play come along and see us as the only game of our kind near the top of the list. It's harder for a busienss model like Grimrock because the only time you're really very visible is at launch or when there's a promotion.
