Help - locked out of checkered room!

At level 9, I got locked out of the checkered room and now I can't backtrack to get the ornate key I need. Is there anyway I can get back?

How the hell have you done this?
I got the problem, that one of the blue dinosaurs get into this room, and blocked the entrance through wandering along the plates.
but without a monster, there is no possibility to lock yourself out.

Hi, my fault. Yes, checkered room is in lvl 9.

As Homek said: It really is kind of odd to get this done. It is one of those unlikely, but not impossible situations.
I recommend you waiting near the door and paying attention to whether the door opens again, because a beast "unlocks" it by moving around. Else: you are "caught".
Therefore another recommendation: Check your saves and look if you having that is not too far in the past ... And then keep the door to the temple closed in order to prevent monsters wandering around and blocking your way back.

Finally and most important: do you have some weight on the pressure plate next to the door? If not, you can drop an item through the cell-door onto the plate; maybe this would do the trick ...

If you enable the developer commands you could then teleport to the other side, or make the wall walk throughable. Here's a post with various links in it.

You can't really lock yourself out. If you think that it's probably because you didn't realize you can put items through grids as Liam said.

Even if there is a monster in that room, it WILL walk around and thus open the room every second step.

Thanks all - I got it through - by placing an item through the gate.
Originally I tried to throw an item through it but it didn't work, that led me to thinking that its no difference to simply placing an item through it

Even if there is a monster in that room, it WILL walk around and thus open the room every second step.

You could probably stand outside and throw/shoot an item in, which could land on a square unreachable from behind the iron bars.

Not sure, if this would work. As far as I remember shooting throw cell-doors stop the shot like a solid door. I will try it, though, the next time I play the game ...
