Old school rpg'er chimes in...

That's me. Old school gamer. Best game i ever played for the longest time: Wizardry on my Apple IIe back in 1982. Anyone remember that one? It won game of the year in 1981 and 1982 i believe and spurned later sequals like The knight of Diamonds, Legacy of Llylgamyn, Heart of the maelstrom etc.. I'm 44 and still love to game, especially dungeon games.

After Wizardry I started playing MUD's online and eventually in 1999 started Everquest which I still play after 12+ years. That's a story in itself. Also had a blast with games like Titan Quest, Diablo, Dragon Age, Torchlight and Oblivion / Skyrim.

Recently i was asking peeps in my EQ guild for ideas on a single player dungeon game to fill my time on off nights. Got lots of ideas and someone linked the page for LoG. I watched the trailer and wasn't impressed. I read up on the details of the game and still wasn't impressed. I read the reviews and that's what stuck in my head. The other thing that stuck was watching the trailer, it reminded me of the old dungeon crawling days. I read more reviews and that was it, i had to give it a try!

The moment i started moving around the opening room, i started to get hooked. Moving 1 block at a time and having to pay attention to every little crack in the walls. I immediately remapped all the keybindings and started to explore. By the time i was done, i had cleared the first level. The first level puzzles were beyond easy but that didn't take away from the fun. The combat system was easy but i enjoyed every encounter. I'd like to believe i didn't leave 1 stone unturned on that first level but who knows?

Anyway, i couldn't stop playing and i had to work the next morning. This game brought me back 30 years and i thank Almost Human for letting me step back in time once again. I can't wait to dive back in again tonight!

My friends and I used to play that game as a group -- one guy would sit at a keyboard, enter commands, and move the party, while 2-3 other guys yelled out suggestions about what we should do. We did this for hours and hours.

Grimlock was a must buy for me. I saw a screenshot off a reddit thread, and thought "Oh, that's cool. It looks like Eye of the Beholder." I almost fell out of my chair when I realized it was a new game under active development -- then leaped for my wallet while frantically clicking around trying to find out where to buy it. By the time I got to level 3 & the first really good puzzle that stumped me for awhile, was grinning from ear to ear.

(Steam says I've played LoG for a total of ~70 hours across all my playthroughs, but for my own sense of sanity I'm choosing not to believe that).

Best game since Dungeon Master...and i've played them ALL..Dungeon Master style games i mean..every last obscure one of them including all the excellent fan made dungeons.
Hoping for more fun when the editor appears.

Sure..off the top of my head try Knightmare (some wonderful DM puzzles in this one) or Black Crypt (on Amiga or PC Emulator)..

The Quest or Undercroft (if you have an ipad/iphone)..

Dungeon Master fan made addon 'Tower Of Champions' is super.

Another on PC is Lands Of Lore 1 & 2..available on GOG (3 wasn't as good IMO).

Arx Fatalis and the Underworld 1&2 series were great games too.

Bloodwych was very good though the play screen looks rather small these days.

I suppose the Might And Magic series too, to a degree. (4,5,6 and 7).

There's more but those strike me as being the better ones other than those you mentioned.

Hi Scherer..it's in the Dungeon Master forums..join the forum and look in the Custom Dungeons forum. It's a really good game. There's a few other worthy of a good playthrough there too..look up the reviews of each custom dungeon.
I'll get the link if you have trouble finding it.
