Manual Translation

Post by Michael_ZZ »

[[ Deutscher Text unten ]]

Hello All!
I've finished the German Translation of the LoG manual. It's 37 pages in A5 format covering the complete English manual with some additions. The 16 MB PDF file can be downloaded at

[[ Link no longer valid ... see below ]]

Thanks to Petri for the permission to distribute it.
Thanks to TΛPETRVE for proof reading.

I've kept the thread subject neutral so that other translators (if any) can add their work here.

Hallo Leute,

Thanks to Echnaton for proof reading the German Manual. He's found some typos mainly in the story part.
Also I've resized the cover and background graphics a bit. The PDF is now less than half the size of the first release (7.2 MB).

The new version can be downloaded at

The old links above are no longer valid!

Michael,

I would like to do the same for french. Where did you find the "blank" manual ? Or did you extract here somehow from the original pdf ?

There are still some typos and grammar problems in the german manual.

for example...

page 10
Wenn Du ein neues Spiel beginnst, bekommst Du zunächst die
Möglichkeit, Deine Dungeon-Crawling-Erfahrung einzustellen.

Wenn Du aber wirklich abenteuerlustig bist

eingeschaltet werden. In ihm

wird das automatische Zeichnen von Karten vollständig abgeschaltet werden. ("werden" isn't necessary here )

Anyway, thx for the great effort :) It's good to see what the community can do for a game.

@ Delastone
I haven't had a "blank" manual, just the (unprotectred) English PDF.
First I've loaded the manual into Adobe Acrobat and copied all the pictures and background art. Then I extracted all the text and put it into a simple ASCII text file for the translation. I also used it as a dummy text when playing around with various layouts/fonts/etc.

Having done that I started a new LibreOffice project. At first I had an A4 layout but later switched to A5 for better readability on my iPad ;)

The first steps were to define 2 master pages (one with the cover background art, the other with the regular bg). After that I fiddled around with various fonts (Cambria is the one and only I'm using now. It is also present in the original manual ... among many others  ) and some basic paragraph definitions.

Then I started the translation. Pasted the text into the LibO document later.

@ BigRob
Thanks for the corrections. I know there are more typos in there. Please let me know whatever you find. I need all the help I can get.
