How do you fight?

This seems like a dumb question but I have read the manual and gone thru the tutorial. How do you attack a Monster? How do cast spells? How do fire a bow?

You can punch monsters, or smack them with torches. The monsters on the first level and most of the second are pretty wimpy.

Also, later when you get weapon with ammo (e.g. bow and arrows) you have to put the bow on one hand and the correct types of arrows on the other hand (not crossbow bolts if you have a regular bow). Then right-click on the bow to fire.

Cudgel and a Rock are found before meeting first monster. An that's without any serious searching. Shortly after you will find a Knife. Also, as already mentioned you can attack with bare hands or torches.

EDIT:
First obtainable missile weapon is a Sling that can be found at level 2 (it's VERY difficult to spot on the ground so have your eyes REALLY open at level 2). If you're going to use it as missile weapon hoard all the rocks you can find on the way (don't waste them for buttons and such).
