am i playing this wrong
am i playing this wrong
i have the usual 2 heavy hitters up front a rougue and a mage at back, but im putting dexterity into the back row yet they rarely get hit unless mobbed, would it be better to put 2 rogues upfront with high dexterity and 2 big hitters behind?
even if that is not the best scenario am i just wasting points on dexterity all together?

Re: am i playing this wrong
Dex is pretty much useless for range characters because ranged attacks always hit. STR is actually best for archers. Your heavy hitters won't be heavy hitting much from the back, though.
Re: am i playing this wrong
The heavy-hitting melee weapons are mostly short range, so you want people with those and good str and dex (for evasion) in front.

There is no "wrong" way to play it
there many strategies, all equally viable

Using mages in the front row as tanks is most definitely wrong.earthyearth wrote:There is no "wrong" way to play it

Since they are in the back row they can't get hir when facing an enemy. They only get hit from the side and back.waylander wrote:i have the usual 2 heavy hitters up front a rougue and a mage at back, but im putting dexterity into the back row yet they rarely get hit unless mobbed, would it be better to put 2 rogues upfront with high dexterity and 2 big hitters behind?

Put them upfront and you will notice they get hurt

Re: am i playing this wrong
A good "universal strategy" is the "hit and move" style. Regardless of group set up, you do your attacks and move away from the mob to limit the time your group is in range for receiving blows. This strategy works for every class combination, so the only difference is really how fast you kill vs how robust your group is. By that I mean if you build your group defensively, your chars will have more HP, and armor/evasion to be able to stay alive if shit hits the fan, this will reduce the damage output ofcourse. Or do you mix it, either by having both types or by balancing each character to be decent in both areas. And lastly going all out attack, relying heavily on your ability to move out of harms way, and maximizing the damage output when you move in for attack, then retreat to wait for attacks to be ready again.

I currently use two unarmed rogues up front (2 pts in dodge, then the rest in unarmed) and heavy hitters in back. The hitters can be two more rogues (missiles & throwing) or a rogue and a mage. There's lots of other variations, but the key is, imo, that dexterity belongs on the front row.
On the flip side, if you want to use all the different armor sets, you might have one dex-based guy and one strength guy up front, both fighters. One gets chitin and swords, maybe, while the other gets axes and the valor set. You can have a missile rogue in back to get the Lurker set, and that rogue can be swapped in for a front row guy if a fight goes wrong. I don't find this to be as strong a party as above, but it's fun to be able to use all the stuff.

Everything is possible, but Rogues and Fighters are undeniably a better option. Messi can play winger, but he excels as Trequartista/Free Role, if you see what I mean.Draken wrote:nope!Phlimm wrote:Using mages in the front row as tanks is most definitely wrong.
