Statue of 3 mages in the middle, with passages and teleports leading off

I stumbled around and eventually found a scroll at the foot of one of the mages. Not sure if this was here along along, or whether I triggered something to make it appear.
I cant figure out what the roman numerals on the scroll refer to though, or the relevance of the messages on the wall next to each teleport.

Any subtle hint please?

weird. that wasnt the approach i took to figure it out at all...

i dont know what to call it, but each room had a number of "verses". one had 3, one had 2, one had 1. i just used that to figure out the order.

Interesting, looks like there was more than one way to figure it out, I like that.
