There are many posts about reimplementing of old games on LoG engine. All of these ideas looks .. slightly fantastic for me. First of all they requires major modding of skill and spell systems, new races, new classes and more other things, such as underwater rooms, for example (at least for EoB3). Second problem concerned with .. copyrights. Each of old games have an owner and this owner can spoil all modding work. Third problem - an artwork. I'm not shure that community can draw all nessesary textures for completely new mod.
I think that most real approach would be in realizing new (possibly, small) dungeon in LoG setting. Just look on LoG world map - now only Grimrock area is covered. There are many other rocks, forests, cities to use.
Theoretically, after editor release we can make a small dungeon, possibly taking part of maps or ideas of puzzles from other games, using existing LoG textures, classes and all other.
It's not too ambitious project, but relatively realistic. At least looks like a good startup.
P.S. sorry for poor english
Just an idea of (simplest?) LoG mod
Re: Just an idea of (simplest?) LoG mod
I totally agree with you. explore grimrock background instead of doing deep modding. make them with what we have, for now!

Re: Just an idea of (simplest?) LoG mod
there is two reason behind the fact everybody want to 'copy' old games.
the first and offical one is the fan-effect...
everyone want to play (and make other play) this excellent old games thant are great in history, but awful in graphics.
giving them a rejuvenation might make new (young) players try this kind of game, and ultimately end in a rebirth of the genre.
the second and main reason is this one : level design is something very difficult...
there is a reason behind the facts programmes talk about the 90/90.
making a game engine working is 90 % of the job.. making the levels is the remaining 90 %
it means that most people think that the programming parts is the most difficult beaucause they havn't the clue about how to do it, but in fact, the most time consuming and difficult part is making good levels... and it's also the most important, because a game cannot hope to succeed only with a game engine...
copying existing games is like writing fanfic, you don't have to do the hardest part.

Agree, I would be happy if the community creates a new monster with blood effect.
That's enough for me.
Great project took so many years to complete.

Re: Just an idea of (simplest?) LoG mod
I agree, just something that already exists in the Grimrock world so we have more to play. Probably the best thing to do rather than take on massive conversion projects that will take years to release and possibly stopped once the original devs found out that fans were remaking their IP
