So frustrated with the level 6 timed pit puzzle

I am at my wits end. I have breezed through the rest of the game so far, but 200ish reloads in and I still can't get the secret door to open. I finally shut the game off in disgust and rage before I started smashing stuff.

Is there anything I can do to get past this really frustrating timed puzzle? I am up for any mod or cheat at this point.

Is your computer slow? I hear that can slow down your movement and make it hard to do timed things.

My computer is about 5 years old now, so I am guessing it is pretty slow. Even being perfect on my movement, I still can't hit the last button in time and move off the trap door before it falls.

The one with the buttons on the pillar.. are you maximizing your key presses, and not rotating unless you need to.
SpoilerShow
You only need to press the first 2 buttons on the pillar ( the one on the east and the one on the west of the pillar ) to get the key..So after pressing the first button on the column on the east side of the room to trigger the puzzle..the proper key combination is QWDDWWW. push button...AAWWDDEE...push button...AA..this will put you in the NW of the room where the key is sitting on a shelf. There are only 3 rotations in the entire sequence. The very first key press, and 2 more at the 2nd button. Also try not to move your mouse to much so it will be right over the onscreen button when you need to push the button.

Yup, I was able to get the key, just not able to get into the secret room.

I did not try to go into the secret room. I will play this game many more times. I will attempt that at a later time. It is not necessary to proceed in the game.

Just go on..Why frustrate yourself.

Position your mouse pointer in the center of the screen where the buttons are, and do not move it from that spot. That half second you save hitting the buttons makes all the difference. Also, make sure you don't change facing until you actually need to press a button. Changing your facing when you could just strafe only slows you down, and you don't have any extra time to waste on that part. Oh yeah, and if you're encumbered at all, drop some of your crap before you try to do this puzzle.

this one took me awhile too
hitting the buttons and then moving away only to fall anyway
then i realised that u have to step away from the switch(es) to a particular square or you fall
SpoilerShow
from memory the switch near the alcove is a sidestep to the right(if facing the switch)then you bolt to
the switch on the opposite side, and i believe after hitting the switch is a step back

I've heard turning your graphics settings down can help with the timed puzzles, someone also mentioned using "cheatengine" to slow the game down (I'm NOT endorsing this)

Failing that, There's a few regulars on the forum that have offered to do puzzles for some people, I'm willing to help; so if you still can't do it send me a PM.

I had serious trouble with the puzzle because, even following these directions, I hadn't realized that there were 2 more buttons to push for the secret room to open than to reach the key. I felt really sheepish when I was wandering around and noticed that the first extra button closes a trap door on the opposite side of the pillar that I had to reach to actually open the secret room.

Following your suggestion of leaving my mouse pointer in the center of the screen and not moving it was all it took once I made that realization.

Well, that and quite a few reloads. The timing really *IS* very tight. An extra half-second reaching the first extra button would be hugely helpful, but I suppose that's what the challenge is about.
