I accidentally fell into the pit on level that's in front of the button--didn't move quite fast enough. Surprise-surprise, there was a monster (and treasure!) down there.

Is this a thing? Should I intentionally leap down every pit trap I come across? Seems like a non-intuitive exploration method, but as I said above, I've found capital-S Secrets down pits.

As a general rule of thumb I think it's worthwhile exploring pits that seem to serve no purpose. If the pit is an obstacle to overcome then I'm less inclined to explore it.
