Grimrock

My current party formation goes like this:

Front: Minotaur/Fighter & Lizardman/Rogue
Back: Insectoid/Air-mage & Human/Earth-mage

I have chosen my minotaur to use axes and I've put all my skill points to axe-skill or to armor-skill. Now many people are talking about some good swords they have found (that shoot fire and stuff), but no-one mentions any good axes. Does anyone know if some of the weapont types (Sword, Axe, Mace) is actually better than the othesr in the end game? Should I've gone with a sword instead of an axe?

Well, looking at the steam achievements... As far as axe/mace/sword, I've mainly found equivalents of each weapon so far as I go through.

Well I have propably enough skill points to come so I can max out both the axe and the sword so no problem, I guess. I think I'll stick with the axe until then.
