So, yeah, I know that Grimrock is going to be released via GOG.com. But will it include any DRM if I buy it directly from you?

If you preorder directly from us you get access to a steam key (+ goodies). We're looking into providing a standalone version too but can't promise it yet.

I'm one of the people who would like very much a standalone installer. I want a DRM-free version and would rather support the developers directly rather than buying from GOG. But it's okay if you guys don't provide a standalone version, I will buy it from GOG.

We'll probably know about the standalone by tomorrow or so. If you can wait for a while, we'll have an answer for you :)

As someone who bought Grimlock directly from the site so you get all my money :D , hoping there's a DRM free version that'll be provided to install on my netbook without having to futz with Steam.

I think, If you release as standalone it will be up on the Pirate sites the same day.
Not a good idea :x

How exactly is that different from the GoG installer?

I think people buy games to support the developer, not because they have no way of pirating it.

It's only $12, buy two! Direct for Steam achievements/convenience, GOG for stand-alone installer on computers you don't want to deal with Steam on. :D

It will end up there anyway, there's no way around it. But people who enjoy the game and want to relive this forgotten genre will pay for it and will make sure that word about it is spread

In a recent GOG article I read that the policy of GOG and the many companies supporting it is to try their best to sell good games as cheap as they can so they could sell more. It's true pirate sites will exploit those games but a real gamer would buy the product if it's offered in a reasonable and affordable price, and I can see that in myself, I only buy games I really want and only original. There is a sensitive spot where there can be an end to the Great War between gamers and developers ( or at least a truce) and that is the very spot developers and distributors now try to reach as this war was catastrophic both to gamers and developers + distributors. The number of "shinny" but awful games rose dramatically over the past years ( I include Oblivion in that category as a matter of fact ) , and so the sales of really good but expensive games dropped hard due to piracy. I think it's the only way for this system to survive.
