Only an owner of Steam would say that they would only use Steam.
And treat everybody else as rubbush.
I will not use Steam because they cheat everybody who uses it. Free software and mods should not be on Steam, as they should be for everybodies use and not have to be paid for, and should not have to have a Steam version of a game to use.
I hope that one day Bethesda release their construction kit for Skyrim for everybody and not just those who like getting ripped off by Steam. Then I will buy Skyrim. But not before.

And here comes the other side of the crazy coin.

This "steam" discussion probably could be moved to it's own separate thread

If i'm not mistaken I think both the workshop and nexus are free services provided to all of us to enhance and simplify our modding experiences. I think they both usually do a fantastic job at this. It doesn't get much easier then clicking "subscribe" or "download with manager"
I don't see how anyone has any right to complain about one over the other, simply because there's 2. If only one of either existed everyone would be like "I sure am glad for the nexusshop, makes installing mods a breeze!"
Appreciation and credit should go to both parties for putting effort into creating these tools, and encourage the growth of the modding community.
As for steam cheating everyone. I got Batman CGI, Asylum, and city for 25 bucks. I got Portal 2 for 7. And I got 3 Civilization games for 25. Sometimes it feels like if anything, i'm cheating them ;D
Lastly, excited for editor.

If the workshop is accessible by everyone for free then I take back my words. From what I understood, it's restricted to steam-clients, though.

Thels wrote:LoG already has a discussion forum (this one) and an IRC channel. Why are you trying to set up a separate "steam only" community where only half the people are able to access?
I made the steam group to help the community grow and communicate. When is that ever bad? There are always people, for whatever reason, only use one service. They may not know about the nexus. Or they might just not like using forums. I am also pointing people in the direction of the IRC channel, Dungeon Drop, this forum, and the nexus when it comes out. Personally, I love the nexus site. I found it back when Morrowind came out!
Lots of people use steam. It makes sense to make a group on steam dedicated to the dungeon editor to raise awareness. If I can get some of those people to hop on IRC, the forums, etc, we have a larger, more diverse community. Making a mod community succeed rests on its (hopefully non hostile) community base, the new content they make , and exposure to the player base. A great example of a mod community is Half-Life 1. With all the mods, maps , and total conversions, everyone found something and had fun.
I personally plan on posting my work everywhere I can.

This forum and thread is not for discussing why you think Steam is terrible.
Making a post like this is just going to make people who like Steam angry and start an unnecessary flame war.
To which plagued the Bethesda forums when it was announced to be Steamworks enabled.
Steam sure isn't the end all be all of gaming fanboys would have you believe, but I don't feel ripped off when I use it.
The Nexus sites have their own problems as well, the moderators there have been known to abuse their authority, banning users for just having a disagreement.

Does this mean that an LoG modder who bought the game from the developer or from GoG, could choose to install Steam for the purpose of uploading an LoG mod on to the Steam-Workshop? (I am guessing not, but I do not know; do you know?)

So it's 'free' after you 'paid' steam?

Nope, you'd need a key, which you only get if you bought the game at Steam originally.
