It'll be nice to have your input on how we're carrying out this project at the very least.
Pm me your skype name?

Hey guys! I've been lurking in the background following this thread with great interest. It sounds to be pretty ambitious project, but doable if people put their backs into it.

Neikun approached me with private message about some things you came up with, I guess in Skype chats or something. Anyways, I thought I'd answer here in public so that everybody gets in the loop.

Firstly geography. You got surprisingly close with your "guess". I'll list places and their influence/reference/comparison in real world.

Kingdom of Theraen, capital Nothampton, ruled by King. - Britain
Malanian Empire, capital Malan Tael, ruled by Empire. - Anglo Saxon
Quenfar, Losancrel, Qegandoc and neighboring areas were once an kingdom before Malanian Empire conquered it. - Burgundy/Franks/France
Surrounding lands of Icefall Bay - Scandinavia
Shards - Iceland/Svalbard
Frostbites and north- Himalaya/Northpole
Endless Tundra - Siberia
Jungles of Xaae are actually subtropical but east to Serpent river starts proper jungles - India/southeast Asia
Isle of Nex. Ruled by religious order. - Crete/Greece
Harbardar - Middle East
Xafi Desert and south - Africa/Egypt

About Rat race. We haven't yet put the final seal of approval to them, but I think we'll do them. Safe bet would be that they are nomandish people that are spread thorough the world with no known origins.

Goromorgs... That's a difficult one. We're a bit touchy about the subject at the moment. You'll see why later ;) . So I don't want to go too deeply on them, sorry. I think it's safe to say, that Goromorgs were seen also in other places than Grimrock in the Time of Ancients (but those stories have already turned to myths). The Prison and Cube were forgotten in time and other civilizations came and went building a layer over layer on top of Grimrock, but Goromorgs lingered through time in the shadows. Neikun also asked if Goromorgs were always evil. Who's to say that they are evil, I guess it's just a matter of viewpoint, but more on that also later. And yes, their origins are connected to Grimrock and other places too...

I hope this helps a bit. Feel free to ask more questions. It'd be cool to see this project come alive. Keep up the good work!

So nice to receive kudos from the devs on this project. Thank you, Juho for all the juicy info!

Didn't think they were evil. At least I never saw it that way. I always saw them as like the lich in EOB 3

Ia cthulhu fhtagn..., ahem. That's what I first thought, but it can very well be something completely different. Also very glad to see the devs approving a project like this on some level. Modding, I always feel like I shouldn't intrude into the "official" territory too deep, but I can hardly resist it either. ; D

I'll PM the skype name to Neikun as soon as I get it set up again, it's been a while since I've used that program.

Legends...Northern Realms - juho’s msg (rat race) & prj supp

I’m using ethos appeal here by quoting juho's msg about this project to attract more contributors; even if it’s just offering to let us use your mods: assets, weapons, monsters, overworld tilesets, etc. All contributions, no matter the size, would be helpful! We would love to be Pilot Testers, Beta Testers for custom mods you may want to see in this project. The Legends of the Northern Realms (official project name) is for everyone! If you want to contribute, but want to be private about it, please PM Neikun as he is our Project Leader.

This is a big project, and we need more talent, quoting Neikun:
Anyone interested in this project is advised to sign up here and send me a private message with your skype name so I can add you to the official discussion group and get you set up with out git hub.

A couple names I'd like to see contribute a little would be
Skuggasvein (good eye for details and one hell of a good modeler)
Jkos (A scripting god, and is more familiar with Github than any of us)
Komag (Better at organizing things than I am)
Diarmund (An excellent scripter)
Germanny (I understand if he's busy, but his assets are so good)
Phitt, LordYig, wallasaurus..ect

I'd like to see a large part of the community contribute at least in part.
Dungeon design can be left to people who design dungeons, but asset creation and the scope of this project will require many more hands.

We need more contributors to create overworld tilesets for each of the areas mentioned in Juho’s message. We also need someone who is an expert with the mechanics of the game to come up with a creative solution to have inventory, stats, spells, etc. follow the party from mod to mod. Happy New Year! And, many thanks again to the folks at Almost Human for creating a masterpiece for all of us to express our creativity and imagination!

Though I'm not gonna have time to participate in this I am gonna follow and give a suggestion now and again, if that's ok.

Y'all may want to msg HaunterV or Edsploration from the CFD for their XP tone down script, it should help when going from mod to mod so the party is not overpowered.

For those of you not yet participating in our github, I recently had an idea and I'd like to share it.

I picture rat people to be like this: (Game dialogue example)
"There's always at least one rat pack in every city. No one knows where or when they came in, they just settled down. Before anyone knew the
difference, it was like they were always there." -Harold Straus, Barman to the Late Dawn pub in Ranwyn

Harold Straus will be a character I will be developing for use in the game world. When he's ready, feel free to plop him into your mods.
His character description will be found in the github.

Hi there,

This sounds like a great project, and thanks so much juho for all the info and help!

I'd be happy to join in if you're still looking for collaborators.

In terms of skills, I'm getting good at lua scripting, especially spells, timers, fx, and I can contribute scripts, solve problems, help with code organization, etc. I think I'm decent at puzzle design, quite good at level design and quite bad at story design (my ideas tend to be really conventionnal and stereotyped).

In way of assets, I'm good with photoshop and retexturing. I've done years of modeling in 3ds max way back, but it's not something I've touched for the last 5-6 years - I might get back to it, we'll see. I've never been really good at 3d animation.

My main problem is time, I have a busy full-time job + lots of side projects, and I'm already working on my spells framework and my own big dungeon which I don't want to abandon. So if given a specific task, like a small dungeon somewhere, I think could manage it in parallel.

I was really hoping you would join up. Your work in the community in just a short time is astounding.
We're just about all pressed for time, actually so no worries there.

If you would pm me your skype name, I can add you to the skype conversation. (Where we get most of our work done and where we do most of the unfogging of the scope of this project.)
From there I will add you to our github once you make an account there.
