They invest big money in game.

They cant risk this money by innovations (chance that innovation fail) instead of copying features of already successful game.

They cant make game challenging (casuals wont buy aka they lose money).

Because they are made for them, casuals, as target group.

More casuals then games who enjoy challenge -> they bring more money, so game need cater to them, be adjusted to their level.

It is realy disgusting, but not much we can do: its how game development works this days: high costs, broadest target group.

Using 'casual' like some sort of insult is amusing. Apparently my ability to set aside swathes of time for gaming is a positive.

An extract from a Grimrock review (http://www.yougamers.com/reviews/33466_ ... ock-page3/), speaks all the truth. I cite it below:

"Legend of Grimrock follows the way of its ancestors from the 80s - it doesn't hold your hand and it expects you to be able to think and adapt, so gamers who are accustomed to today's easy console-style "everybody is a winner" games may get frustrated along the way as everything isn't exactly served on a gold platter."

You missed on games like the Metroid Prime series then. There's still challenging FPS out there. But what FPS did you find challenging in the 90s the only one I could think of is Hexen.

Hexen is for PC.

Off the top of my head: Quake, Doom, Doom II, Duke 3D, Wolf 3D, SoD, Future Shock...I could go on and on. The 90's was the birth and heyday of the FPS, IMO.

Adding: How could I forget Dark Forces or Half-Life?!? D'oh!

My only two favorites from the 90s. Have to admit I was never a fan of the 90s shooters too fast for me.

Quake 3 was made for online competitive play.
