No need to give up Although emulating the exact behavior of racial favorite diet is hard as pointed out by minmay, you can get a similar effect by following Zo Kath Ra's example above. Small details like this can spice up your mod.
yeah I guess i could do that...make a custom pie item that checks whether or not she ate it and give her a stat boost if she eats it but nothing if someone else eats it. of course i'll have to create "custom race dfinitions" for all my characters as well then.
Custom races with custom racial food are not really portable anyway. If someone wants to cheat, they can freely use the console, so spending time on anti-savescum tactics is probably a wasted effort.
It is probably easiest to make a central script that is called by the custom racial food(s), and have that called script inspect the champion for suitability of the bonus.
yeah...it works in my mod since I made a custom class for each character, and then i made the custom foods, and I can directly control how many stat gains each character gets by limiting the amount of the food items I put.
if people want to cheat, they are gonna do it anyway like you said...I put a little "surprise" at the end of my mod to satisfy those people...after they beat it. They have to beat it first.
I discovered I can even make "hated" foods, that lower the stats of the person that eats it, if they *hate* it...

That's a slippery slope though. Needs to be witty or else it would just piss people off.
I would put a clear hint in the description of the item and in the clues around it that the certain character hates that food. a person would have to be really ignoring the warnings to get hit by it...my comment was mainly that I thought it was interesting that I could make items that drop the stats as well as gaining them. or I could do one that ass2 2 stats somewhere but lowers a stat somewhere else like +2 strength but -1 will or something like that. The possibilities are endless
I've included a mechanic in my mod, that some races do not eat some food. In example Lizardmen do not eat lizard on a stick...

Aaneton had a room in which everything was reversed, and there was a steak that made one hungry for having eaten it. But I do think that (generally) permanent stat-loss will not be well received.
Food that one hates can work in situations like that of Frodo, Sam andf Gollum, where there was naught but Lambas bread to eat, and Gollum couldn't eat Lambas bread. Another situation that could work is a custom cat race (like the Khajiit from Elder Scrolls, and the Huline before them, from Lands of Lore). They could be on a map with no meat, and not be incapable of fully benefiting from non-animal based food.
please trust me on this, I'm not going to do it in a trollish douchy way.

there's only one instance of it, and it's totally obvious so they can avoid it...and there's 2 instances of a food this same character likes, to gain stats.
although on second thought, I might not do this after all...I might just do it instead that the character that hates it just does not restore hunger. end then if you try to make that character eat it, then just nothing happens, i can display an info message that they hated it and spit it and did not want to eat it. that would not be game breaking, I mean, 1 piece of food that fails to satisfy you...it seems no worse than the diseased pitroot bread...

Or you could make the debuffs temporary, like a reverse rage potion~
