And this sums up why people on Team Battlemage FTW and people on team Wizards for life are not going to see eye to eye. Both see that the weakness in the class can be patched up by your old friend the alchemist.

I think the issue is not if the Battlemage is better then the wizard. It is more What do you want to do with a battlemage that is better then a wizard and how you play the game.

Battlemages extra health and 50% redused armor is wonderful for players that don't like to move around a lot and find the 2x2 dance boring. They are also good for someone that just wants a front line tank that only needs to cast a few spells to back up normal melee. In both cases the extra health is an advantage as dieing is a lot more inconvenient then running out of power and will be more common in these play styles.

Wizards with there higher energy pools and heighten regen (form high will) are wonderful for the highly mobile player that can quickly move around while managing their whole party. If you are the sort that can hold a spell ready slide into place, relase your spell and still have the quickness to pop off some melee attacks from your other party member before sliding out of attack range then the wizard will rule the battle feild for you. And you don't even need to be super pro at this as long as you have good battle feild awarness even just keeping the wizard out of harms way while you let your front row face tank also makes this work.

The point is not is this class better then that class really the question should be is this class best for My Own Playstyle.

So They can Hit. Wait. Hit. Wait. Then go Hit. Hit. Hit. Hit. And some like the undead, spiders, and ratlings can go Hit-it-it-it-it! I even counted once and had A Ratling with 2 throwing knives attack 12 times rapidly without pause in the time it took for my wizard to recharge after using Shock and finally use it and kill him.
Actually i like this AI upgrade a lot. In LoG1 monster AI was really simple. You knew exactly which monster did what and when. Now in LoG2 there is always this uncertain factor what the monster will do. This keeps the player on it's toes and combat interesting.

The thing I am saying is that Battle mage gets +10 resist all. Post 50 is where I felt that really shine and having it from simply using a staff speeds up the process of getting there if you factor in the arachmage gear.

Wizard has... more mana and +2 will. +2 will does not translate into a great source of regen for mana.
Added mana perhaps could give you another big spell and a half (maybe 2) by late game.
So in an endurance fight they potentially will kill something x amount of time earlier.

A Wizard as has been stated should have a bonus to their elemental damage then they have comparative value.

However... if you are looking for the superior power gaming caster it is an alchemist.
I am kind of addicted to alchemist now though and running 3 of them.
Kind of a pain to keep checking the inventory for dupe herbs.
However I was able to go straight to the crystal Mines since I can just chug pots and make ice bombs.

I would not say the Battlemage is a far superior class I guess. It sure is inventive and interesting and useful as is though.
