Screw this game.

Talk about anything Legend of Grimrock 1 related here.

LoG is NOT some AD&D or Wizardy game where you get stuff thrown at you at every occation until it comes out of your ears. You have to make do with what you find. You are controlling characters not cargo trucks; they don't need to carry around 3 sets of armor and 10 weapons each.
Huh? Dunno about Wizardry, but good stuff is typically rare in AD&D games.

To me "not enough" and "good" are very different things.
When i recall the EoB's there was sooo much gear it was more then enough to outfit several full parties.

Talking about weapons. As you can see in table below, there are no more swords then maces/axes. There is actually one more mace then sword. And ONLY one more sword then axe/dagger.

quality..........sword.................axe................mace.................dagger

low..............Machete..............Hand Axe.........Cudgel................Knife
medium.........Longsword...........Battle Axe........Knoffer Mace........Dagger
high............Cutlass....................................Warhammer.........Fist Dagger
..............................................................Ogre Hammer
very high........Sword of Nex........Norja..............Flail
legendary.......The Dismantler......Ancient Axe......Icefall Hammer......Assasin's Dagger

Yes, I'd like to see ONE additional axe AND dagger, but really is one less axe a reason for such a drama?

I must say axes always seemed sparse somehow. Even this guide mentions that: http://www.gamebanshee.com/legendofgrim ... s/axes.php
That fact, however, needed no guide to bring it to my attention. I it something about axes that make them feel rare?
All the weapons are certaintly usable though.

IMHO we should give up the expectation of complete equality. If you're 2,5 meter tall, mace wielding minotaur you are likely to have better chances of survival then a 1,5 meter human who happen to be a dancer or a singer with a guitar or a flute (sorry, Bard's tale fans :)).

Although Grimrock is a fantasy world, I think basic similarity to medieval times should apply. Some weapons were more popular than others.

Are you sure about this... My wife claims my singing can make even the most battle hardened ogre run screaming from the room.

Well you did. I have to admit that I didn't like the right-clicking to access the portrait inventory.. I didn't even notice there were no locks to pick..

But for the length of time I spent in the dungeon.. I never wanted to leave or for it to end.

You didn't pay $59.99 for this game.. mayhaps you pirated it to complain.

You didn't pay $29.99 for this game.. mayhaps you played a borrowed copy.

If you can do better than Legend Of Grimrock, I certainly welcome you to try. I'll buy it as long as there is not one single thing wrong with it for a subjective user base of thousands upon thousands of people worldwide. Otherwise you can always learn to right-click more fluidly and realize there is a lot of room to make improvements and tweak the formula with a sequel.

LOG was the best game of 2012, period.

In reply to the OP ONLY: (since I haven't read all the three pages)

Your tone is maybe not the best to convey these ideas, but I'm amazed on how you're pretty much spot on about almost everything. Especially on the poor weapons balance design and how the challenge should not come from the interface.

I love this game, but I'm happy to see I'm not the only one seeing the (IMO) more serious flaws with it.

Just my 2c.

This game is not a blockbuster, it is a game based on an old style which is practically extinct, make by people who love this type of game.
The games today are all soft, I not have a challenge like the legend of grimrock in years! I got stuck and died several times, and did not come down here cursing the game, I just loaded the game and tried something different.
You have a right to have your opinion and I too, and mine is that some games are not for certain people, no offense.

Op. Scarcity of items is part of the design and adds to the overall theme of actually surviving in the dungeon. I may be misunderstanding, but it sounds as if you want there to be an overabundance of items.....You are not always supposed to have w/e item you want in this style of game. The scarcity of items encourages exploration, attention to detail, and influences the pacing of the game. It also makes it that much more gratifying when you get a useful item after solving a puzzle or finding a secret room.

As for the faulty interface claim.......I for one found it incredibly satisfying and more immersive than many other combat systems in other games. I agree that there could be a FEW hotkeys, but too many and you will just have the same generic combat system that is used in most mmos.

Wont bother typing more because it seems like a big troll every time you post.
