After browsing the topics and reading the manual, I was unable to find an answer about food. I noticed that one of the media reviewers was feeding his characters food items and saying something like "he's hurt, I'll give him this ..." as if food was a health potion. I'm certain he is mistaken, but can someone explain the need for food beyond the obvious "starving to death" explanation. Does a full stomach yield faster weapon recovery or faster healing, etc?

IIRC, you can regenerate health by going to sleep, but only if your characters's hunger bar aren't empty.

Thanks for the quick response.
Nothing else? No magical enhancements?
Guess, I'll just keep an extra eye open on this next week.

I suspect we'll all be feeding on the remains of the mushroom creatures...

I'd suggest TV Dinners but there is probably not a TV.
I'd take one of the four wooden clubs I was carrying and just bash open doors with it.
- if life were like Dungeon Master
I'd click FIREBALL much more on New Year's Eve
- if life were like Eye of the Beholder

Are there any other "side effects" to eating the mushrooms?
