Any chance of a mini-map?
Re: Any chance of a mini-map?
I don't mind when the developers implement a minimap, but please with the option to turn it off.
I find the current map system very well balanced. You have 2 options: draw your own map and you get the advantage of being able to look at the map while the game is paused or you use the auto-map and you get the disadvantage that you cannot look at the map while paused. That's good game balance.

I'm not sure you realize how time consuming it is to draw a map, and how annoying it is to pause your game to do something that the game should be able to accomplish for you. Not all of us have either the time or patience to do such a thing. Again, I realize hobbyists want to draw their maps. That's cool. There's an option for you. You're covered. However, there is no option for someone like me to navigate with simple efficiency.
I want to play the game. My personal preference is not to interrupt my time with the game to draw a map of where the heck I am in the dungeon. I also don't want to waste a bunch of note paper unnecessarily.
This isn't a game balancing issue. A map has NOTHING to do with game balance in terms of difficulty or challenge. Period. A game's difficulty should be created through challenging, but rewarding, combat, quests, or story choices. A games difficulty should not be generated through ease of access.

You seem to be misinformed, you don't have to draw a map, there is one in the game which you can look at any time you want. No one forces you to play on Old School mode, this is for fans that want the old school experience.
Incidentally for my first play through I played the game with no map and no paper mapping at all, and you know what? I loved it!

Having an automap and a very nice one I consider unuseful a minimap in screen. But in any case if it existed should be independet from the old school mode or normal mode, I mean, it should be toogleable independently of the existence of the automap.
Re: Any chance of a mini-map?
Sorry, I think there was a misunderstanding here . My comment was a reply to Eobersig's comment that I could draw the map in order to have it handy while you're playing, instead of pausing the game to look at it. My point was that it would be a lot easier for the game to simply add mini-map or an overlay instead.Darklord wrote:Hi Luuthian,Luuthian wrote:I'm not sure you realize how time consuming it is to draw a map, and how annoying it is to pause your game to do something that the game should be able to accomplish for you. I don't want people to get the impression that I don't like the game. It's a great throwback. But even great games can be improved. That's the beauty of PC releases and patches: We can add things in or correct that we missed. The addition of an optional mini-map would be a great feature IMO.
Re: Any chance of a mini-map?
As far as i an remember, minimap was realized as spell (named as "wizard's eye" ?), in one of old games, can't remember it's name. May be might & magic? This spell is limited in time and have limited sight. I think it wouldn't harm, to add such spell to LoG.

CSB introduced a map that you could empower with various spells. DM2 had it too.Morgan wrote:As far as i an remember, minimap was realized as spell (named as "wizard's eye" ?), in one of old games, can't remember it's name. May be might & magic? Man, now I want to go play the old DM games in their original forms.
Re: Any chance of a mini-map?
I've been dying to have a game like this, or the classic DM, on mobile. The Quest is the only game that's bothered to even come close. It'd be nice to see something fresher.

Ah nice one, yeah I think a mini map would be funky, hopefully someone may take it on as a mod challenge at some point!

yes, wasn't the magic map a special scroll or something...seebs wrote:Didn't DM2 have this as a magic item or a spell or something? Hmm. Looking it up, there was a see-through-walls spell, and then there was the magic map added in CSB and also available in DM2.
Loved the "utility magic" aspect of DM/CSB.
