Officially I am running with the idea that there is some sort of teleport field in Sparta hole. And it safely teleports the party to the starting room.... removing all there stuff (pants/shirt stopping chains included.)
My logic for this.
It is said you can see the top of mount grimrock days travels away making it most likely the tallest mountain around... Yet a mere 13 floors down and the death of cube man blows the whole mountain up leaving a huge epic creator. The hole left clearly is not nearly as wide as the mountain is tall. This makes me believe level 13 is fairy deep under the mountain. Something only possible if either each floor is hella far away from each other. Or the whole dungeon is under the mountain .

I would piss my self from the sight of walking skeletons. I would eat mushrooms for recreational purposes. I would tame a snail and name it Larry. I can't throw rocks for crap.

The fall can indeed be explained with a slope + teleporter.
The real question is, where are all the roots on the walls of the first levels come from?

me and my friends and bro already falled into the hole!
I would be ok with the fall if i would drop on the third one
my bro's a mage so he can levitate i guess

I don't trust the guy in the upper right. For a front line guy hes is WAY to interested in watching party members instead of looking out for monsters.
