EotB II was a brilliant! I love the whole EotB series though

Recently I tried Lands of Lore but was not that impressed, mostly b/c was annoyed by a constant monster respawn...
Other than DCs, I can definitely call Betrayal at Krondor another of my favorite RPGs, I think I replayed it like 15 times!

Don't like respawns either :( One of the reasons I really dislike the CoD series (die play them all except 3 which was console exclusive) In CoD in lots of areas mobs respawn as long as you are "standing around"... thus people get the tendency to rush... as, the sooner they hit the next invisible checkpoint your either immortal or also respawning comrades win the battle and it's on to the next round of endless spawning enemies...

I like to be able to "clear out" so to speak... doesn't matter if it's on the battlefield or in a dungeon :)

I like limited respawns, while most things should stay dead, the odd "wandering monsters" add some some interest.

Don't agree and it's exactly the reason I do not like lvl6 in Eye of the Beholder 1 :)

How about a room of respawning screamers for food etc?

Well I can "live" with it, not that I won't play a good dungeon crawler because it has respawning enemies... but ye even respawning for food mobs on a particular location... no sorry... don't like it... it..

1. Detracts from realism (why would those mobs respawn in that location besides convenient food access to the user)
2. Basically gives a "infinite food" option with the drawback that it requires backtracking and spending time on a mundane task

I much rather then have the user experience a shortage of food for a while and then later on "open up" new sources of food income... this can mean brewing your own food potions from herbalism, it can mean learning a create food spell (similar to eye of the beholder, although in Eye I do believe you learn your food spell a tad to quickly, I usually get it around lvl 5 and by then I still had lots of iron rations in my inventory).. it may mean that there are markets or stalls or vendor with food on certain points (I fully understand vendors don't go well within the desolate dungeons of Grimrock... ofcourse Eye1 was a similar environment and it did have a encampment of dwarves including a healer (and there could easily have been a trader) on lvl5...

Just think there are more realistic options then just having to grind usually very easy mobs in a predefined respawning area just to give you access to unlimited food.. if you really want unlimited food, then either give the user unlimited food (eye of the beholder spell system), or provide more means of acquiring food throughout the dungeon/area.

I must admit I never worry about realism, I accept that dungeon ecologies are highly unrealistic. I mean how did the enemies get locked behind a wall that dissapears when you push a button and what has it been living on, while trapped in a tiny square area?

Games like Skyrim are a least a step closer to realism having houses, people sleeping and flowers and butterflys and such.

my all-time favourite is Chaos strikes back, for non-linearity and replayability.

second one, Iter Vehemens ad Necem (Ivan) ... for a crazy complex game mechanic! (viewtopic.php?f=3&t=2576&hilit=ivan&start=10#p26891)

I still have Wizardry IX, or "Wizardry 8" as they call it (I'm old school hence roman numerals :-) ). Problem is with number 8 is it is so MASSIVE I got fed up of it after playing for months. Otherwise a lovely immersive turn based one with great plot and writing and sassy characters.

Oh wait that isn't grid based. Oh well, E o Beholder series, any AD&D game (usually great game art), Heroquest (8-bit Spectrum 48K), The Bard's Tale I & II, Rebelstar & Rebelstar II (ditto), Realms of Arkania Series, (Incredible Music too), Dungeon Master, The Dark Spire (Nintendo DS), Dungeon Hack, Rogue, Slash 'em...ummm...

Out of curiosity, wasn't Chaos Strikes Back considered a sequel to DM? If so, why did Interplay call their game "Dungeon Master II Legend of Skullkeep"?
