That reminded me of the time I took my Hardcore Barbarian to level 63 in Diablo 2. That honestly felt like a great gaming accomplishment. And yes, it was both interesting and hardcore.

I see no contradiction between my statement, the dictionary definitions you gave and your entire post.
Of course we are talking personal opinions here. My take on playing without potions: it's a nice LoG2 challenge. My take on playing without food: it's ok at the beginning but becomes a rather boring grind quite fast. It's usually found in early mod releases that still need balancing. You can look into the modding sections and see requests for more food quite a lot of times. Those requests are not made because the mod gets harder without food; the need to chip away critters instead of fighting them simply distracts too much from enjoying the mod.
