what
there are multiple floor triggers in grimrock 1 that do basically the same thing, most visibly the one on level 6 that makes snails

That's kind of the only one though. The only other spot that I can recall is the ice lizards, but they're much more to be avoided. I'd say food is much more limited in the first game.

Only until the party reaches level 6. Then food becomes unlimited due to infinite snail respawns on 6 and ice lizard respawns on 9.

Agreed. The ice lizards were not worth the effort; painful little boogers.

Besides, minmay, Snails and Ice Lizards are mobs that must be killed in order to trigger a food drop. I was talking about Fish in Grimrock 2 which is a direct food source. You brought up an indirect food source. You just have to click on the fish and place them in your inventory. Last I checked, if you try to put a Snail or Ice Lizard in your inventory you die

But if you want to discuss indirect food sources then that's fine. Running between levels in LoG 1 to trigger more mobs for food is a terrible process that involves too much back-tracking. It is more sensible to simply carry excess food with you from level to level. In Grimrock 2 there are more mobs in more convenient areas, and quicker ways to access them via the Hub, that respawn as an indirect food source (turtles, frogs, snakes, wolves, herders).

And of course, there are replenishing sources of direct food, like fish in multiple locations.

Grimrock 1 does not have replenishing sources of direct food at all, and LoG 2 has more mobs that respawn for indirect food. Plus we now have an item that eliminates hunger effects. These are the reasons that food has become less a factor in the second game. This is a good balance I think (as the other poster stated).

Umm... Forgotten River, Keelbreach Bog, and Sleet Island. All 3 locations have fish that respawn; I assume simply over time but there could be other triggers, like the pressure plate you mentioned. Maybe only 1 location with your pressure plate trick, but those 3 regions respawn fish by some means. There are other areas as well I just forget (like, the fish in the location of the final Crystal Armor piece).

you do realize that grimrock 2 comes with an editor right
i can search the files for any mentions of small fish in less than 3 seconds
you can't actually troll me this way
the only fish that spawn after the game begins are the ones in the sewer hatchery

I'm not sure what part of what I'm saying is trolling. Earlier when I mentioned respawning fish and noted that nothing in Grimrock 1 works that way, your response was to bring up fighting Snails and Lizards... were you trolling? You do know that you don't fight the fish in Grimrock 2 right? Go look in the Editor.

I do know that I have tried to catch a whole lot of fish when I played through the entire game, not just to get extra food but to help level up my Farmer. You can look at the Editor all you like, the fact is that no matter how many fish I caught in the areas I mentioned, there always seemed to be more. So if they were not really respawning then they were just stocked really really well. I'm fine with that too since the outcome is the same: a large supply of direct food sources. And that's still different and more convenient than how food was provided in Grimrock 1.

I'm not the only poster on this forum that seemed to think the fish were respawning:

You seem more concerned with proving script than acknowledging the fact that food was much more limited in LoG 1.

Now that sounds like an interesting thing to try... play through the game without eating anything. You would probably need to have an alchemist or 2 for potions for both health and energy, but would also have to be careful about fights so as to not waste your health since you wont be able to get any back from resting.

jesus azel stop being obtuse on the "direct food" thing.

a snail respawning is food. you are high level by the time you would go back their and kill a lvl 1 monster in 1 hit stop acting like it's somehow different then grabbing a fish out of the water. I would say it's easier to kill a lvl 1 snail with a lvl 10+ party then it is to chase a fish around underwater. starting to sound like you'r being purposfully difficult. The fish in grimrock 2 only respawn in 1 area and the developers never made the claims you are saying, so you'r basically lying, atleast about the developers statements.
