Same, was expecting something along those lines, but it was still absolutely fantastic (my savegame at the starting point of the fight is aptly named "EEEEE!").

I can't find the steel gear anywhere.
I even gave up and shamefully looked at the walkthrough on Gamebanshee cause I was stucked on it for hours... And it isn't where they are pointing it.
I'm not sure if it is a bug or what, but that item isn't in my game.

Steel gear, Bladed gear, Ore and Infuser is correct. The game is annoyingly picky about placing them in the exactly correct spots.
I agree about the placing of the objects to the portal/cube. I think the graphics for the bladed gear spot and ore spot are okay and logical and helps to choose appropriate looking item for them. The wall where the infuser is supposed to be placed is already much worse because you really can't anyhow see the right spot for the item because the artwork of the wall doesn't give you any indication. And still the game demands you place the item to exactly right spot.

Worst of all is the placement of the steel gear. Exact spot where you need to click with the right gear is a bit up and right, but there's no indication what so ever that that's the correct spot. The artwork/graphics of this particular wall is very misleading and you can't really figure out which of the stuff is the right item, because there is no logical shape on the wall. Either the placement of the object shouldn't need to be so precise or the artwork of the wall should be more logical. Now it just makes you to think none of the objects you have found below is the right one and make you aimlessly poke around walls for hours searching for more objects.
