I went back and forth between 2.1.18 and 2.2.4 to take a bunch of screenshots at specific locations to check on fps improvements. (1920x1080 fullscreen Triple Buffer all High)
1st column: beta party savegame from 2.1.9
2nd coloum: single wizard savegame from 2.1.18
3rd column: single farmer savegame from 2.2.4
For each column i loaded the same game right after game start, walked the same path and took pics at the locations listed.
Forgotten River
Code: Select all
31 15 3 22
2.1.18: 49 fps 51 fps 54 fps
2.2.4: 53 fps 55 fps 59 fps
25 1 2 22
2.1.18: 48 fps 50 fps 53 fps
2.2.4: 52 fps 53 fps 55 fps
10 1 2 22
2.1.18: 50 fps 52 fps 53 fps
2.2.4: 55 fps 56 fps 59 fps
1 9 1 22
2.1.18: 45 fps 46 fps 49 fps
2.2.4: 48 fps 49 fps 52 fps
Sleet Island
Code: Select all
30 12 3 11
2.1.18: 42 fps 43 fps 44 fps
2.2.4: 45 fps 45 fps 47 fps
10 30 0 11
2.1.18: 43 fps 44 fps 45 fps
2.2.4: 46 fps 46 fps 49 fps
Given that the locations are all outdoors with a lot to render the 5 to 10 percent overall fps improvement is very nice

Dr. Disaster can you do the same on the PC? I would like to see results PC vs Mac. I also like to see what Petri's Mac goal is :
2.1.18 PC - 2.2.4 PC - 2.24 Mac - future 2.3 Mac (Petri's goal)
With this we can a rough estimate of what to expect of v2.3 and time when ready.

I got no Mac that is capable of running the game.
Nevertheless the only way to get a real comparison would be a Mac with Win/OSX-dual-boot option so the same hardware is in use.
EDIT
Now on the other hand it seems i might actually not need a Mac to run OS X.
Can anybody hand me an OSX 10.6 install disk image to try that?

The one from iATKOS is the best i ever found (believe me, i have tried many). It can work either via VM or by direct installation, although is a Mountain Lion (10.8.x) 64bit and is mainly for
Intel CPUs.

You can download it from the site.

Or we should ask John to do the tests as he has both machines or Bootcamp. But required is OS X 10.7.5 according Petri's message at the Home page

I'll give it a shot.
Lucky me got a spare HDD around so i only have to switch drives and don't need to go thru the 10.6.x install + upgrade hazzle.
EDIT
Either 10.8.x does not like my spare drive or PATA in general, it did not show up after the DVD booted.
I asked a pal to borrow me a SATA drive, maybe i have more luck with it.

I have used a few Hackintosh systems in the past - while its a fun experiment, I wouldn't trust any benchmarking comparisons made on PC hardware running OSX. Hackintosh systems are quite finicky!

Aye and that's why everyone interested should take the following numbers with several grains of salt.
I managed to get OSX running on my i7/GTX760 combo after using a spare SATA HDD. Nevertheless i had to update to 10.8.5 for nVidia Kepler support. The original 10.8.2 installation could not handle my Kepler-based GPU. In the end i used the nVidia Driver Bundle 313.01.04f01 after testing the original (generic) Apple Driver which is 2 fps slower in general.

Considering an extra -2 fps for using a hackingtosh -7 fps (-5 fps on a real Mac) for all is acceptable, but we must determine why the higher differences happen, so Petri can optimize them
If a mac user with Bootcamp windows can do the same tests and has the same differences we can get an average extra fps decrease and an average mac result.
