Wow, I just got sucked in to that history for 60 minutes, reading that old thread, downloading and playing the old Escape from Dragon Mountain demo (interesting non-grid Grimrock-like experience!), finished with 7/7 treasures and 23/23 enemies.

Looking at those Legend screenshots reminded me of good 'ol "Dungeon Magic" for the NES:
