Re: 4 Mages

Really ? Well, I am doing it anyway.
I can compare with my previous party (heavy weapons, thrower, ranged). I did somewhat the same zones.
The first part, getting to the first wand, was the worse and it wasn't that hard.
My fire mage can cast meteor a couple times already (more than 200 mana). The earth mage is the one doing the alchemy and I find poison bolt to be quite effective against the foes it can affect (earth 5). When I am against some foes, he can use the dispel wand. For a couple levels, I had trouble remembering who can cast what but not anymore. It's always better to drink a potion than to move the guys around as I was doing in the beginning to share the damage.
Some of my guys (air and water) that already have concentration 3 are already putting points in athletics for the bonus hitpoints as I don't think I need anything else. I am not using the ice shards spells at all, I find frostbolt to be better most of the time.
Dodging and casting the runes is not very different from dodging and using the power-attacks. At least with my mages I can prepare 4 spells in advance most of the time.
Time will tell if my party will go through to the end of the game, but for now, I'm having as much fun as with my previous party (except the first part without the first wand).
I agree with those that complain that magic does not scale with willpower, and could have used more spells, but I can play my 4 mages with the game as it is.
