I took that as well. The ammo didn't last very long.
I didn't run out of ammo with my gunner until the very, very end. o.o
Then again, I played my alchemist like a support spell caster who happened to have ranged attacks, not as an attacker that could make potions. I very rarely carried completed potions on my characters.

I never ran out either because I just didn't use him to shoot most of the time to prevent it. He was good at watching the rest of the party fight, though. I saved his ammo for the tougher fight where his mediocre damage could make a difference.
