Stuck in Test Chamber [ Spoiler }

after wading through this level, I notice there is an area gated off the the right before you head up the exit stairs. I could not find any switch to open that.

any idea where that is?

I've put items on all the correct plates. When the light goes in instead of bouncing around it make one circuit and the hits a wall. Anyone else having this problem.
