M&M X Legacy easily chews up 5 GB from my RAM, thus using the paging file. There must be some memory leak somewhere. And it's even worse under x86 systems.

You really should try out Wizards & Warriors if you don't know it already.
It's the most similar to Wiz 8 that exists, because it's the child of the departed lead Designer of Sir-Tech, but sadly forgotten.

Sadly it was full of bugs when it came out and was overshadowed by Wiz 8 and so got never the fame it deserves.
Problem is to get a working copy. And you need Windows XP or Windows Millenium, if I remember right.
Also essential is the "unofficial" Wizards & Warriors Patch v1.00 and the Wizards & Warriors Graphics Patch

Didn't know about this game. It looks so cool and old school. Where can you get a copy? but I doubt it will run under Win7 x64.
